Ghia Nadel - Founder of sak.sak

Ghia Nadel’s journey to sak.sak began with creativity and some serious resilience. After losing work in the face of rising fast fashion competition, Ghia turned to her sewing roots, a journey that started in 2019 when her grandmother gave her a sewing machine. Initially making reusable fabric bowl covers, she pivoted in 2020 to sewing face masks during the early stages of the pandemic. Through determination and an intuitive sense of what people want, Ghia grew this small operation into a production unit in Somerset West, employing seamstresses and selling thousands of units weekly. In 2023 she conceived sak.sak, inspired by South African culture and a desire to create products that feel uniquely local and unmistakably fun. The brand’s name and designs, like the standout kant.sak, blend playful, cheeky expression with functional, quality craftsmanship. What began with one bag sold in its first month quickly scaled to thousands within a year, with the brand generating significant revenue and enabling Ghia to expand her team further. She remains committed to keeping production in South Africa and growing the business organically. sak.sak reflects Ghia’s belief in making goods that are both meaningfully, distinctly South African and proudly crafted.
